In a significant move to empower local communities and foster sustainable livelihoods, the Assembly Member for Dorimon, Fuseini Saaka, in collaboration with CAPECS-Ghana and with funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations, has distributed essential tools and equipment to 38 young people and women in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The initiative, which took place in Dorimon, aims to create employment opportunities, enhance income generation, and promote social cohesion while strengthening the community’s resilience against violent extremism.

The distributed assets include sewing machines, hairdressing equipment, bread-baking machinery, welding and fabrication tools, electrical work kits, groundnut paste production tools, weaving machines, and other vital resources tailored to enhance vocational skills and small-scale industries. By equipping beneficiaries with these tools, the project seeks to enable self-sufficiency and economic stability within the district.

Speaking at the event, Assembly Member Fuseini Saaka expressed deep appreciation to CAPECS-Ghana and UNDP for their commitment to community development. He emphasized that such initiatives are crucial in positioning Dorimon as an emerging industrial hub in the Wa West District.

“This project is a game-changer for Dorimon and the surrounding communities. It not only provides the means for sustainable livelihoods but also fosters resilience against threats of violent extremism by engaging our youth and women in productive ventures,” Saaka stated.

He further urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by utilizing the resources effectively. “You are now ambassadors of this community. Put these tools to good use, grow your businesses, and inspire others so that more people can benefit in the future,” he advised.

The initiative is expected to have a ripple effect on the local economy, encouraging entrepreneurship, reducing unemployment, and fostering community cooperation. By equipping residents with the means to generate income, the program not only improves individual livelihoods but also contributes to the overall economic development of Wa West District.

Local leaders, development partners, and community members present at the event lauded the initiative, expressing optimism that it will lead to increased economic activities and greater social harmony in the region.

This intervention is part of broader efforts by CAPECS-Ghana, UNDP, and the UN to support grassroots development, with a focus on economic empowerment, skills training, and community resilience-building.

With continued support and proper utilization of the resources provided, Dorimon has the potential to emerge as a beacon of economic transformation in the Upper West Region.
