In a significant boost to local sports and social infrastructure, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli/Kaleo, Hon. Mary Haruna, has cut the sod for the construction of a modern astroturf at the Gbankor community.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Haruna highlighted the facility’s multifaceted role. “This astroturf will serve not only as a pitch for football and other sports but also as a versatile venue for social events, including naming ceremonies, funerals, weddings, and more,” she stated.
The project owes its realization to the generous support of Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. Honourable Haruna stressed its district-wide impact: “Although located in Gbankor, this astroturf belongs to the entire district, ensuring adjoining communities can all benefit directly.”
Landwind Ghana Limited has secured the contract and is expected to complete and hand over the facility within eight months.
This marks the second astroturf in the Nadowli/Kaleo District. The first was constructed by Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, in Nadowli, the district capital.
