A devastating rainstorm that swept through the communities of Gengenkpe, Piiri, and Kusele on Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15, has left a trail of destruction, damaging schools, clinics, electricity poles, and homes. Tragically, the storm claimed the life of a 12-year-old Basic 7 student of Gengenkpe JHS, Pearl Tuolong.

In the wake of the destruction, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Nominee for Nandom, Honorable Anthony Ziniel, paid a visit to the affected areas, including the Gengenkpe and Piiri clinics. Parts of the clinics’ roofing sheets were ripped off by the storm, but renovation works have since begun.

The damaged roofs have already been replaced, restoring functionality to the health facilities in the Gengenkpe and Piiri communities.

Work is also ongoing to replace electricity poles that were broken during the storm, in an effort to restore power to the affected communities.

Hon. Ziniel expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured the communities of the government’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts. He further disclosed that steps are being taken to renovate the Gengenkpe JHS block, which was severely damaged, with the hope that works will be completed before school reopens in early May.

The MCE Nominee commended the community members and local authorities for their swift response and pledged continued support to ensure normalcy is restored.
