Philanthropist Donates Furniture to Tafiasi School After Media Report

Pupils and Teachers of the Tafiasi Basic School can now heave a sigh of relief after a Philanthropist, Baluri Bukari Kasim, donated furniture to the school. The lack of desks has remained one of the school’s biggest challenges.
The dire situation lingered for years despite appeals by the headteacher of the school, Bundi Comfort, for assistance.
The appeal for furniture was amplified to national attention by media entities including Joy News and TV3.

Touched by the predicaments of the pupils, a philanthropist, a native of Kulfuo, Baluri Bukari Kasim presented a hundred dual desks to the school. The furniture is expected to cater to Two Hundred students’ sitting needs.

Tafiasi is a community located in the northeastern part of the Sissala East Municipality, it is about 9 kilometres from the municipal capital, Tumu, and bordered by Chinchan and Bujan. The community is a farming area with few teachers and nurses, it has a population of about 650. Tafiasi Basic School was established in the year 2004. It has a current population of about 340 students with 16 teaching staff and 2 non-teaching staff.

Mr Baluri also donated desks to other schools with similar challenges within the enclave. Kulfuo Basic received 50 daul desks, Bugubelle had 88 while Duu-East got 88. In all 326 dual desks were given. The furniture will serve over 652 students.

A Colourful handing-over ceremony was held at Tafiasi Basic School with a high-powered delegation in attendance. They include Godred B. Kanton, Luri David Bangi, Paulina Yawala – Gender coordinator at the municipal office, Shaibu Gado a presentative to Bukari Baluri the donor, the headmistress of Tafiasi Basic Madam Comfort Bundi and her staff, PTA chairman Nuhu Narimah, SMC chairman, the Chief of Tafiasi her his elders.

Godfred Kanton who spoke on behalf go the Sissala East Education Director admonished parents to prioritise the education of their children. He bemoans a worrying trend where parents prefer their children engaging in farm work to education.

The chief of Tafiasi, Kuoro Bachunaching Bawa Solomon expressed gratitude to the donor and appealed for more learning materials including an ICT laboratory.
