The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has inspected the newly constructed regional police headquarters located in Sombo in the Wa Municipality.

The state-of-the-art, two-story facility, designed to enhance the operations of the regional police command, features 22 well-equipped offices.

Situated on a 10-acre plot, the headquarters boasts ultra-modern amenities, including furniture, air conditioning, CCTV cameras, television sets, office cabinets, tables and chairs, washrooms and computers.

Addressing the media after the tour, Mr. Yakubu commended the quality of the work and expressed optimism about its impact on policing. “We are talking about physical things that are there for everybody to see,” he said.

“You can just imagine if successive governments had built two of this every eight years since 1992, the transformation it would have brought to this region.”

He also highlighted the inadequacy of the previous facility, describing it as “like a hen coop” due to its cramped nature. He pointed out that the old structure, built before the Upper West Region was created out of the Upper East Region, was not originally intended to serve as a regional headquarters.

The construction of the new headquarters began in 2013 but was abandoned for several years before being resumed and completed in 2023.

The Minister said the completion of the building is a significant step toward improving the efficiency and comfort of law enforcement operations in the region.
