The two-term Member of Parliament for Nandom Constituency in the Upper West Region, Ambrose Dery has revealed his resolve not to contest parliamentary elections after the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The former Upper West Regional Minister said his decision to bow out will allow another party person to take uptake mantle.

“I want to tell you something. After this coming election, I will not be contesting for Parliamentary Elections. I will step down and allow someone to come. The person will come from among my people. No one will come from anywhere to contest” he said.

He made the revelation during an engagement with Nandomɛ based in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale on June 15, 2024.

Ambrose Dery’s attempt to enter parliament began in the Lawra Constituency in 2004 on the ticket of the NPP where he was defeated by Benjamin Kumbour.

However, luck eluded the NDC MP, Benjamin Kumbour when he lost to Ambrose Dery with less than a thousand vote difference in the 2008 parliamentary elections.

Both candidates moved to the Nandom constituency when it was created ahead of the 2012 elections. Benjamin Kumbour bounced back stronger with a win before bowing out ahead of the 2016 election.

Ambrose Dery was elected in the Nandom constituency in the 2016 and 2020 parliamentary elections.

Ambrose very has served as a deputy Attorney General, Upper West region Minister, Minister of State in the Ministry of Justice, Interior Minister and now minister of State at the presidency.
