A prominent Wa native, businessman, philanthropist, and politician, Alhaji Alhassan Uthman Gbangu, has come to the aid of Nusrat Jahan Demonstration JHS in Wa Municipality after strong winds ripped off several classroom roofs. The zinc roofs were torn apart, forcing the school to improvise by laying the sheets over roofing boards and weighting them down with blocks to provide minimal shade for classes.
Alhaji Gbangu and his wife, Hajia Shamima Muslim, donated GH¢18,000 for urgent repairs. The funds were presented by Abdulai Ibrahim, Wa Central Constituency Youth Organizer for the NDC and Upper West Regional Director for the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
He noted that upon receiving the school’s distress call, Alhaji Gbangu released the money in under 24 hours. “Alhaji Gbangu regards education as a life-transforming activity and is committed to our children’s success in school,” Ibrahim stated.
Speaking on behalf of staff of the school, Madam Shahida Seidu Braimah expressed heartfelt thanks for the timely intervention. “For days, we’ve been teaching and learning in fear as strong winds battered the area. This donation relieves us, as our problem will soon be fixed,” she said.
A learner of the school, Anas Asila Seinu echoed the gratitude: “We sincerely appreciate his support and pray that Allah blesses him.”School authorities are appealing to philanthropists, NGOs, and the Wa Municipal Assembly for help completing the ICT block, which has reached roofing level but lacks funds to finish.

Recently, Alhaji Gbangu has supported various Wa initiatives, including GH¢11,000 for a urinal at Wa TI Girls SHS, GH¢2,000 to a mother of quadruplets, and GH¢5,000 to Yari-Naa Sualihu Sungumo for a leadership, peace, and conflict resolution workshop.
