Education and healthcare in the Sombo East Electoral Area received a significant boost on Tuesday as the Assembly Member, Hon. Thomas Saanaa Bondinuba, donated 4,550 educational items to 17 public schools and presented six infrared thermometers to the Sombo Health Centre.

The presentation ceremony, held at Sombo R/C Primary School “A”, brought together officials of the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly, the District Directorate of Education, school heads, teachers, traditional leaders, PTAs, SMCs, parents and community members.

Hon. Bondinuba, who described himself as both a proud teacher and a former pupil of the school, said the donation was more than an act of charity it was his way of giving back to the community that shaped his life.

“I once sat in these classrooms as a pupil. Today, I return not simply to donate, but to give back to the school and community that made me who I am,” he said.

The educational support package included 700 copies of Jolly Phonics Book 1, 1,600 copies of Jolly Phonics Book 2, 432 textbooks in English, Mathematics, Computing, Creative Arts, Physical and Health Education and Ghanaian Language, as well as 50 school uniforms, 120 exercise books, 40 slates, teaching clocks and learning charts.

The beneficiary schools were Sombo R/C KG A, Sombo R/C Primary A, Sombo R/C KG B, Sombo R/C Primary B, Sombo R/C JHS A, Sombo R/C JHS B, Piree KG, Piree Primary, Papu KG, Papu Primary, Papu JHS, Guree KG, Guree Primary, Dunjagu KG, Dunjagu Primary, Kaangu KG and Kaangu Primary.

Beyond education, the Assembly Member extended support to the Sombo Health Centre with six infrared thermometers to strengthen basic healthcare delivery, noting that a healthy child is better positioned to learn and succeed.

Addressing the pupils, Hon. Bondinuba encouraged them to dream beyond their circumstances, reminding them that many of today’s leaders began their journey in classrooms just like theirs.

“The people you see leading today were once pupils like you. Study hard, respect your teachers and believe that your background should never limit your future,” he advised.

He further called on parents, former students, professionals and community leaders to complement government efforts by contributing towards the development of schools and health facilities, stressing that lasting community transformation is achieved through collective responsibility.

Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, education stakeholders commended Hon. Bondinuba for the timely intervention, describing the donation as a meaningful investment in the future of children across the Sombo East Electoral Area.
