A heavy rainstorm which hit parts of the Nandom Municipality on Friday, May 15, 2026, has caused significant damage to property in communities including Dondometeng, Puffien and Bu.
At Dondometeng, parts of a church building under construction were destroyed by the storm. In the same community, nine high tension electricity poles were also broken, leading to power outages in affected areas.
Speaking to Yiri News, the Assembly Member for the Biiregagn-Dondometeng Electoral Area, Hon. Charles Domemile, said several homes in the area are currently without electricity due to the destruction caused by the storm.
According to him, a similar rainstorm a few days earlier had destroyed some electricity poles in the area, but they were quickly replaced. However, Friday’s rainstorm caused further destruction to additional poles.
He indicated that officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA) are currently in the community working to restore power to affected households.
The rainstorm also ripped off roofing sheets from several houses in Puffien and Bu, leaving some residents stranded and counting their losses.
At Bu, portions of the Bu Lower Primary School block were also affected after the strong winds tore off parts of the roofing structure.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported from any of the affected communities.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Nandom Municipality were seen moving from one community to another to assess the extent of the damage caused by the storm.
Residents in the affected communities are appealing for urgent support to help repair damaged structures and restore normal life.
