The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially granted boarding status to Lambussie Loggu Community Day Senior High School in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region

In two separate letters dated June 10, 2026, and sighted by Yiri News, the Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, informed the Upper West Regional Director of Education of the decision and directed the regional office to work closely with the Free SHS Regional Coordinator to complete the necessary arrangements for the implementation of the new status.

The letters further indicated that additional staff would be posted to both schools to support the effective operation of the boarding facilities.

Although Loggu and Lambussie Community Day SHSs were originally established as day schools, they have over the years served large catchment areas, attracting students from surrounding communities. However, limited dormitory facilities provided through government and community efforts have struggled to meet growing demand. The situation has been particularly challenging due to the absence of private hostels and adequate accommodation options in the two districts.

Education authorities believe the upgrade to Day/Boarding status will significantly improve access to secondary education by providing stable accommodation for students, especially those who travel long distances to school. The move is also expected to boost enrollment and enhance academic performance by creating a more conducive learning environment.

Beyond its educational benefits, the decision is anticipated to create employment opportunities for local residents through teaching and non-teaching positions, including residential supervision, catering, maintenance, and other support services associated with boarding school operations.

Community leaders, parents, and education stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention that addresses long-standing accommodation challenges and strengthens efforts to expand access to quality senior high school education in the Upper West Region.

With the introduction of the boarding system, both Loggu and Lambussie Community Day SHSs are expected to attract more learners from across the region while contributing to local economic growth through direct and indirect job creation.
