The Old Students Association of Nator-Duori Primary School has donated 10 student desks to the school while launching a passionate appeal for urgent support to improve education in the community.
The desks were presented to the headmaster as part of an initiative led by the Association to address the growing challenges confronting the school and create a better learning environment for pupils.
Speaking during the presentation, Nkunangmini Evans, President of the Old Students Association, said the union was formed less than seven months ago with a shared vision of giving back to their alma mater and ensuring that future generations receive quality education.
He explained that since its formation, the Association has mobilised old students, engaged teachers and begun putting structures in place to support the development of the school.
“Our aim is to make sure every child in Nator-Duori enjoys quality education. We have started this journey, but we cannot do it alone,” Mr. Evans said.
Despite the donation, the community says the school continues to face severe infrastructure challenges. Primary Six pupils are currently studying under a tree due to the lack of adequate classrooms, while the School Feeding Programme operates without a kitchen, forcing cooks to prepare meals on open firewood under a tree before serving pupils outdoors.
Residents also lamented the absence of a Junior High School in Nator-Duori. As a result, pupils who complete primary school must travel long distances to either Goli or Nator Township to continue their education, a situation they say contributes to absenteeism and makes access to education more difficult.
The Old Students Association has therefore appealed to the Government of Ghana, the Nadowli Kaleo District Assembly, the Member of Parliament, development partners and well meaning individuals to support the construction of classrooms, a school kitchen and a Junior High School for the community.
Mr. Evans also called on the media to amplify the community’s concerns, expressing hope that increased public awareness would attract support and help transform education in Nator-Duori.
The Association says its long term vision is to ensure that every child in the community learns in a safe, dignified and conducive educational environment.
