The son of a New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch chairman in the Lambussie constituency of the Upper West Region, Philip Wonenuo aka Dada, has been arrested for allegedly threatening the life of Prof. Titus K. Beyuo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

According to a statement released by the NDC, the security details’ vigilance brought the situation under control during a community engagement in Kucha, the candidate’s hometown.

According to the statement, the tense episode occurred at around 7:30 pm while Prof. Beyuo was addressing constituents ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections and presidential elections.

The statement added that the session took a chaotic turn when an altercation erupted between a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Beyuo and a member of Prof. Beyuo’s team.

Witnesses reported that the NPP supporter “issued death threats against Prof. Beyuo and his team” before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Moments later, the same individual returned, visibly agitated, and was joined by another individual identified as the son of the NPP branch chairman for Kucha.

Prof. Beyuo’s security team, maintaining vigilance, intercepted the duo near the event venue. Upon a search, the chairman’s son was found in possession of “a pistol loaded with live ammunition.”

The suspect was immediately arrested and handed over to the Lambussie police. Meanwhile, the initial suspect identified as Beyuo Isaac, a cousin of the NDC PC remains at large, with police actively pursuing him. A formal complaint has been lodged with the authorities, and investigations are underway to determine the full scope of the incident.

“While it may be premature to point fingers, we trust the police to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and hold anyone involved accountable.”

The suspect is currently in prison custody at the Wa Prisons and will appear before the courts on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
