The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, who has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for incest after being found guilty by the Lawra Circuit Court.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit on Saturday, the convict was also sentenced to an additional 10 years’ imprisonment for the offence of threat of death. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
Police said the conviction followed a thorough investigation and successful prosecution by the Lawra District Police after a complaint revealed that the convict had sexually abused his 17-year-old biological daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period.
Investigators further established that the abuse was accompanied by repeated threats of death, with the victim allegedly being warned against disclosing the incidents to anyone.
The Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, delivered its judgment on Friday, July 24, 2026, finding the accused guilty of both incest and threat of death.
Beyond the custodial sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor to aid her recovery.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and dedication of the investigators and prosecutors whose efforts led to the successful conviction.
The Command also urged members of the public to promptly report all cases of sexual and domestic abuse to the police to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and survivors receive the necessary protection and support.
