The Hudu Foundation has donated trophies, books and other prizes to the Islamic Education Unit ahead of the 2026 Islamic Learning and Memorisation (ILM) Challenge final, organisers said Friday.
The donation, which includes exercise books (1,000), 55 medals, two trophies and 10 plaques is intended to support learning and encourage students in Islamic schools to excel academically.
Abdulai Yaser, Chairman of the Islamic Education Council, thanked Alhaj Hudu Mogtari and the foundation for the support, saying the gifts will improve the learning environment and motivate learners.
Seidu Kassim, Deputy Manager and Head of Human Resources, who spoke one half of the Upper West Islamic Unit said the prizes will reward outstanding performers and spur greater effort in future editions.
Kassim noted that the ILM Challenge has helped raise standards in participating schools. “Previously some Islamic schools recorded poor BECE results, but since the introduction of the ILM Challenge we have seen marked improvement. In recent years about ten Islamic schools have recorded a 100 percent pass rate in the BECE,” he said.
On his part, Alhaji Duogo Yakubu who presented the donations on behalf of Hudu Foundation assured that, Alhaji Hudu Mogtari remains keen in offering assistance towards education and would continue as much as possible never to relent on it.
The competition’s format groups schools into fours for the opening round, followed by a Round of 16 and Round of 8 before the grand final. This year’s finalists are ASWAJ Islamic School, Fongo E/A JHS, Falaiya Model JHS and Kabanye Model JHS.
Sheikh Ahmed Yakub, an Islamic scholar in Wa, welcomed the donation and urged continued support for the ILM Challenge and other educational initiatives, while calling for greater emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Organisers urged parents and the public to attend the final, which will be held at the Wa Technical Institute on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
