Assembly Member for the Bussie East Electoral Area, Honourable Evans Gandiibu Naah, has been elected as the new Presiding Member of the Dafiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District Assembly.
In a vote held today, Hon. Naah secured 16 votes, defeating his sole challenger, Hon. Emmanuel Konogini, Assembly Member for the Wogu Electoral Area, who received 4 votes. Two ballots were rejected, leading to Hon. Naah’s declaration as winner. He was immediately sworn in to serve a two-year term.
A three-term assemblyman, teacher by profession, and youth political activist, Hon. Naah succeeds Hon. Stephen Katuole, the outgoing Presiding Member from the Fian Electoral Area.In brief remarks after his election, Hon. Naah expressed gratitude to his colleagues, pledging to foster unity and development in the district.
Political observers view the outcome as indicative of ongoing rivalries within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in DBI. The contest is seen by some as reflecting tensions between supporters of incumbent MP Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaare and former Deputy Upper West Regional Minister Hon. Abu Kansangbata, who narrowly lost the NDC parliamentary primaries in 2023.
Hon. Gandiibu Evans is said to be an unrepentant loyalist of Dr. Sebastian Sandaare whereas Hon. Emmanuel Konogini is an ardent ally of Hon Abu KK. Currently, some tensions have started simmering within the two well-known NDC camps in the constituency.
