Security agencies in the Upper West Region have intercepted a truck carrying suspected illicit drugs and explosives at the Babile Inland Checkpoint, the Ghana Immigration Service has announced.
According to a statement signed by Inspector Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, Public Relation Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, the operation followed intelligence gathered by officers stationed at the checkpoint.
On Monday, March 23, 2026, personnel stopped a Hyundai truck with registration number AC-1426-22 en route from Kumasi to Hamile.
The truck was suspected to be transporting illegal items concealed among legitimate goods. A joint inspection conducted on March 26 by the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, Narcotics Control Commission, and the Ghana Revenue Authority confirmed the presence of prohibited materials.
Items uncovered during the operation included 20 detonating devices, multiple sacks of what was identified as Tanubyn dynamite, and large quantities of tramadol branded as “Royal Tramol Kings” and “Royal Tramal King,” each containing 225mg doses.
Authorities say the items had been carefully concealed beneath non-contraband goods in an apparent attempt to evade detection. However, officers at the checkpoint uncovered the hidden cargo, thwarting what officials described as a deliberate effort to outsmart security personnel.
“The officers chose the state over illegality, criminality, and inducement,” the statement noted, praising the vigilance and professionalism of personnel involved in the interception.
A full-scale investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the shipment.
The Ghana Immigration Service is urging residents of the Upper West Region to remain calm but vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities. The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with communities and partner institutions in combating crime.
Officials emphasized that law enforcement agencies will not tolerate interference in the execution of their duties, warning that any obstruction will be dealt with decisively.
The Service further expressed appreciation to the media and the public for their continued support in the fight against crime.
