In the bustling political heart of Upper West Region, a fierce battle for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Wa Central Constituency Chairmanship is exposing deep rifts over transparency and due process.
Iddrisu Bomison, a former Constituency Secretary now vying for the top seat, issued a stark warning on Wa-based Sungmaali FM. He accused incumbent leaders of illegally issuing nomination forms well after the deadline for polling station executive roles, undermining the party’s reorganization. “I plead with those at the constituency office to do what is right,” Bomison said in Waale. “These illegal actions have plagued us for years, fueling our ongoing challenges.” He added.
Bomison, a longtime Regional Communications Team member credited with intense branding of the NPP across the region, claims a flood of complaints from party faithful about attempts to unjustly replace polling station executives. Yet, he urged calm. “I keep encouraging them to stay composed… I refuse to let these issues tarnish the party’s image. He insisted.
“I’m a favorite among the rank-and-file for my long-standing dues-paying through loyalty, Iddrisu Bomison boasts, “Even if allies are imposed, the grassroots will vote for me—they know who has the party’s heart at stake.” His recent forum in Bussa honoring NPP pioneer BK Adama reinforced his heritage-driven credentials.
The contest pits Bomison against incumbent Chairman Osman Abdul-Hamid, with stakeholders eyeing who will restore unity.
But Alhaji Mumuni Abass Sidik, the current Constituency Secretary, swiftly dismissed the claims as “unfounded” when contacted by Yiri News. “The process of electing polling station executives has been nothing short of transparent, fair, and clean,” he insisted. “There is no manipulation whatsoever… The accusations are based on mere surmising, fear, and panic, not facts or evidence.”
Alhaji Sidik reaffirmed adherence to party guidelines: “No credible incident of manipulation has been recorded.
We urge everyone to put aside unfounded fears, trust the process, and move forward in unity rather than allowing baseless rumors to divide us.” Part of his response captures.
As polling station elections loom, this clash underscores broader tensions in NPP’s internal democracy. Will Bomison’s allegations spark reform, or will Alhaji Mumuni Sidik’s assurances prevail?
Political watchers say the outcome could shape Wa Central’s loyalty ahead of regional and national polls.
