A head-on collision on the Léo–Ouagadougou road near Taré and Sapouy around 2:13 PM yesterday has left three people dead and one survivor.
The crash involved a Toyota 4×4 heading to Ouagadougou and a Tata truck bound for Léo. The Toyota, carrying four occupants, was severely damaged, killing two people instantly. A third victim died shortly after being taken to Sapouy Hospital.
One passenger survived without serious injuries and described a sudden collision that gave no time to react.
Emergency services responded quickly, while both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Authorities and local leaders later assisted families in retrieving and identifying the bodies, which were transported back to Tumu.
Two of the deceased were from Kong and Sakai, while the third is from Upper East. His body has been transported to the Upper East Region and deposited in a mortuary by the Builsa community in Tumu. The bodies of the two victims from Kong and Sakai have since been handed over to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The incident has plunged affected families and communities into mourning, with calls for caution on the busy highway.
