The Nandom Municipal Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member following voting held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Nandom Municipal Assembly Conference Hall.
The election, which was conducted by officers of the Electoral Commission of Ghana in Nandom, brought together Assembly Members and Government Appointees to elect a Presiding Member for the Assembly.
Two candidates contested the position: Depulla David of the Bu Electoral Area and Sagraza George of the Baseble Electoral Area.
Out of the 37 eligible voters made up of 25 elected Assembly Members, 11 Government Appointees and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who has voting rights, two Assembly Members were absent, leaving 35 members to participate in the election.
Results from both the first and second rounds of voting remained unchanged. Depulla David secured 12 votes while Sagraza George obtained 23 votes out of the 35 votes cast.
A candidate required at least 26 votes to be elected as Presiding Member. Although Sagraza George led the contest, he fell short by three votes, while Depulla David remained 14 votes below the required threshold.
With neither candidate securing the required number of votes, the election ended without a successful outcome.
The Assembly is expected to reorganize the election process within the next ten days in line with the prescribed procedures.
The Presiding Member position is a key role within the Assembly structure, responsible for chairing Assembly meetings and facilitating the conduct of Assembly business.
