A young tailor, Prospera Dery, has lost her tailoring business after a fire razed her shop at Nandom Down-Below, adjacent to the CHALICE Office, on Tuesday night, September 15, 2026.
The fire reportedly broke out during a rainstorm that started at about 7:00 p.m., destroying the tailoring shop and virtually everything inside it.
Among the items lost were sewing machines, electric irons, customers’ clothing and fabrics, as well as clothes prepared for sale. The items were reportedly destroyed beyond salvage.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. However, the timing of the incident has raised the possibility of a power-related fault, particularly amid the rainstorm. This has not been confirmed, and the actual cause remains unclear.
For Ms. Dery, the fire has not only destroyed her workplace but also wiped out the equipment and materials on which her livelihood depends.
She is therefore appealing to individuals, organisations, the Nandom Municipal Assembly and other benevolent persons to come to her aid.
Support in the form of sewing machines, tailoring equipment, fabrics, financial assistance or other resources could help her rebuild the business and return to work.
The young tailor is now faced with the daunting task of starting again after losing the tools and materials that enabled her to make a living.
