Assembly Member for the Baseble Electoral Area, George Sagraza has been elected as the Presiding Member (PM) of the Nandom Municipal Assembly after securing the constitutionally required two-thirds majority vote.
The election was held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Nandom Municipal Assembly Conference Hall and was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Sagraza polled 26 votes to secure victory over his contender, Depulla David, Assembly Member for the Bu Electoral Area, who obtained 10 votes. One ballot was rejected as spoiled.
The outcome brings to an end the Assembly’s search for a Presiding Member after earlier attempts failed to produce a winner. In previous rounds of voting held on May 21, 2026, neither candidate attained the required threshold for election, with Mr. Sagraza polling 23 votes and Mr. David securing 12 votes.
The Presiding Member is responsible for presiding over meetings of the Assembly and ensuring the orderly conduct of Assembly business. The position is one of the most important leadership roles within the local governance structure.
Assembly Members and Government Appointees welcomed the outcome and expressed optimism that the election of a Presiding Member would facilitate the smooth running of Assembly business and support development efforts within the municipality.
Mr. Sagraza’s election paves the way for the Assembly to fully constitute its leadership and proceed with its mandate of promoting local governance and development in the Nandom Municipality.Note: The vote figures provided (26 + 10 + 1 spoiled ballot) indicate that 37 ballots were cast, meaning all eligible voters appear to have participated in the election.
