The Member of Parliament for Daffiama‑Bussie‑Issa, Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, has provided financial support to the Daffiama‑Bussie‑Issa District NHIS Office to enable free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration, renewals and subscriber updates across the constituency.
Dr. Sandaare announced the initiative on his Facebook page, saying the NHIS team has been moving from community to community for more than a month to register new members, renew existing NHIS cards and update primary contact numbers and subscriber details in the system — all at no cost to constituents.
“This exercise is in line with the NDC government’s flagship Free Primary Health Care policy,” Dr. Sandaare said. “My appeal to everyone is to take advantage of this free exercise being carried out by the National Health Insurance Scheme in the district. Remember your health is your concern and with your NHIS card, you have access to healthcare.”
District NHIS officials said the outreach aims to reduce barriers to enrollment and ensure that residents — especially vulnerable groups and those in remote communities — have continuous access to health services covered by the NHIS. Updating contact information will also help the scheme communicate more effectively with subscribers.
Local health workers welcomed the move, noting that improved NHIS coverage reduces out‑of‑pocket payments and encourages timely use of health services. Constituents who need to register, renew or update their details are encouraged to visit the NHIS teams as they visit communities or contact the Daffiama‑Bussie‑Issa District NHIS Office for schedules and locations.
Already hundreds of constituents are taking advantage of the intervention as they hurriedly que to get registered onto NHIS for those who aren’t policy holders and renewal for those who’s policy have expired.
