Mohammed Yakubu, widely known in political circles as Oli Mohammed Tunsung, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Constituency Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Wa East.
In a statement shared with Yiri News, Oli Mohammed said his campaign is driven by a clear vision: to strengthen the NDC’s communications bureau and ensure the party’s achievements reach every community in the constituency.
“Eight years of dedicated service as your constituency deputy communications officer have prepared me for the next responsibility,” he said, adding that his experience and networks position him to take the bureau to the next level.
“With humility and confidence, I declare my intention to contest for the position of Constituency Communications Officer for the NDC, Wa East. Let us build on experience and galvanize our party for victory in 2028,” the statement read.
A familiar face in the region’s political landscape, Oli Mohammed is recognized across Wa East and the Upper West region for his grassroots communications work — from radio programmes and campaign platforms to door‑to‑door engagement. Party supporters say his ability to connect with diverse communities and speak persuasively under pressure makes him a strong contender for the role.
Oli Mohammed currently serves under Aziz Donla, who is pursuing the role of Upper West Regional Communications Officer for the NDC.
A senior party elder told Yiri News that Wa East’s mixed ethnic and political landscape, which has sometimes swung to the opposition NPP, needs a unifying communicator: “Someone like Oli Mohammed Tunsung, a dedicated young leader and unifier, better suits the role.”
Yiri News has confirmed that Oli Mohammed is not aligned with any of the three main local political camps — those of Hon. Dr. Godfred Jasaw, Abu Juan Esq., or Razak Tachi — positioning him as an independent candidate focused on party cohesion.
