Anwelle Foundation has congratulated Noela Wiyaala, known across the continent as the “Lioness of Africa,” on being crowned Global Fugu Queen.
In a message, Anwelle Foundation CEO Frank Anwelle praised Wiyaala for using her voice to preserve and promote Ghanaian culture. “Your voice has carried our stories. Your music has promoted our culture,” Mr. Anwelle said, congratulating the acclaimed singer on “this exceptional achievement.”
Wiyaala was officially crowned Global Fugu Queen on May 16, 2026, by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, in Funsi, her hometown in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region.
The honor recognizes her artistic excellence and her role in celebrating and popularizing Sissala and other northern Ghanaian traditions on the global stage.
Anwelle Foundation, a growing nonprofit active in community development across the Jirapa municipality, has recently increased its local engagement. During this year’s Bong-ngo festival for the chiefs and people of the Jirapa Traditional Area, the foundation donated a brand-new motorbike to a cyclist who rode from Yeji in the Bono East region to Jirapa in the Upper West region to raise awareness for the festival — a gesture that underscores the organization’s commitment to cultural promotion and grassroots support.
Local sources report that Anwelle Foundation will be officially launched later this year, a move that is expected to expand its programs and partnerships across the Upper West and beyond.
