The Jawara Foundation has donated sports equipment to four senior high schools in the Nadowli/Kaleo District of the Upper West Region. The items include five volleyballs and four sets of jerseys.
Kaleo Senior High Technical School, Kaleo St. Basilide Technical Institute, Sombo Senior High School and Takpo Senior High School were the beneficiary school. The foundation said the remaining senior high schools in the district will receive similar support soon.
Presenting the items, Francis Angbabora Baaladong, Coordinator of the Jawara Foundation, said the intervention is a social initiative to empower young people rather than a political act. “There is absolutely no political ambition attached to what the Jawara Foundation is doing,” he said. “Our mission is to ensure that young people have access to the sporting equipment they need to develop their talents, stay physically active and realise their potential.”
Mr Baaladong added that sports help steer youth away from delinquency and instill discipline, teamwork, perseverance and leadership — qualities that support both personal growth and academic success. He also cited the foundation’s CEO, David Jawara Banye, as a driving force behind the programme. “Mr Jawara has the youth at heart. He wants to see them fit, academically successful and able to develop their talents through sports,” he said.
The donation follows the foundation’s recent reward of GH¢4,800 to the winners of the Inter‑District Circuit Games in Kaleo, which was used to organise a celebration for students and teachers after the competition. Over the years, the Jawara Foundation has supported basic and senior high schools across the district with educational and sporting interventions aimed at youth empowerment in the Upper West Region.
With plans to extend similar support to other schools in Nadowli‑Kaleo, the foundation says it remains committed to investing in young people as a pathway to a healthier and more productive future for the district and the nation.
