Former of DKM Diamond Micro Finance Martin Delle, has publicly urged former Nandom MP Hon. Ambrose P. Dery to shelve any plans to return to parliamentary politics in the constituency.
Martin Delle, a prominent NPP activist, entrepreneur cum philanthropist and a well-known ally of the Hon. Dery said that younger party members should be given the opportunity to contest. “Hon. Ambrose Dery, please hold on. We are the young guys, please, please,” his post read.
Martin Delle DKM as he’s affectionately called has been ramping up visible constituency engagement in recent months. Yiri News has learned his foundation recently sponsored a health screening and treatment exercise that benefitted many residents, part of what supporters describe as sustained investment in community initiatives ahead of the party primaries.
Ambrose Dery has been the subject of frequent speculation since the 2024 elections. During a “Accounting to the People” programme in Tamale prior to the 2024 elections he indicated he would not seek another mandate, remarks that strengthened expectations he would step aside. But speaking by phone on Nandom FM on Tuesday, August 11, Hon. Dery said he has accepted calls from constituents to contest the seat again.
Sylvester Isang, a legal practitioner and one of Hon. Dery’s proteges, had set a deadline of Thursday, August 13 to declare his intentions; sources close to Isang Esq say he was likely to confirm a parliamentary bid. It’s however unclear what this announcement by Hon Dery would mean for him.
Alois Mohl, another NPP figure who was disqualified by the party’s vetting committee in 2024, has also indicated he is preparing for the primaries. Sources close to him say, ‘wether rain or shine he’ll contest’. The source said emphatically.
If Hon. Dery formalises his candidature, the Nandom constituency’s NPP primary is poised to be fiercely contested, with political tensions likely to rise as veteran influence collides with an assertive younger generation of aspirants.
Yiri News will monitor developments and provide updates as candidates make formal declarations.
