The Nandom Municipality joined the rest of Ghana to commemorate the 69th Independence Day celebration with a colourful parade at the Kukube Durbar Grounds. The event brought together students, security agencies, heads of institutions and residents who gathered to witness the annual national celebration.

Students drawn from selected schools across the municipality took part in the march past. The parade featured contingents from one tertiary institution, three Senior High Schools, five Junior High Schools, six Primary Schools and four Kindergarten schools.

In a unique show of honour, retirees also joined the march past, receiving applause from the audience.

The ceremony was animated by musical performances from Bobby’s Band and the Lawra Fire Service Band, which provided marching tunes throughout the event.

Heads of key institutions were also present, including officials from the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

As part of the celebration, seven students were honoured for their outstanding performance in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The awardees were Billey Dessiah – St. Maria Goretti R/C JHS, Kpetah Rejoice – Royal Star Community JHS, Ibrahim Praise Azutyine – Royal Star Community JHS, Maabesog Roland Logar – FIC Jubilee JHS, Dery Louis Bil – Royal Star Community JHS, Kpenu Sheila – Royal Star Community JHS, Mwintome Lovia – St. Maria Goretti R/C JHS.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Director of Education, Paschaline Ninfaakang, urged teachers across the municipality to remain committed to their duties.

She admonished teachers to be regular in school and dedicate more time to supporting learners, stressing that improving academic performance requires collective effort from teachers, parents and education stakeholders.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Nandom Municipality, Anthony Ziniel, commended the participating schools and security agencies for their discipline and dedication during the parade.

“Independence Day reminds us that the development of our country depends on the commitment and responsibility of every citizen, especially our young people in school,” he said.

He also encouraged students to remain focused on their education and strive for excellence.

“The future of Nandom and Ghana lies in your hands. If you study hard, remain disciplined and take your education seriously, you will become the leaders who will transform our communities,” he added.

The celebration ended with cheers from the crowd as participating schools and groups completed their march past in honour of Ghana’s 69 years of independence.
