Nandom Wins Inter-District Reading Competition

The Nandom Municipality has emerged victorious at the just-ended inter-district reading competition held in the Upper West Regional Capital, Wa.

The reading competition was organized for the lower primary: Basic One, Two and Three with all eleven districts participating. All Participants were drawn from public basic schools.

For Basic One, Wa Municipal came first followed by Daffiama-Bussie-Issa and
Nandom Municipal came third.

In the Basic 2 category, Sissaala West took the first position, Nandom came second and Sissaala East placed third.

Nandom Municipal placed first, Wa Municipal came second Sissaala East placed third for the basic three contest.

At the end of the reading competition, Nandom Municipal emerged as the overall best district followed by Wa Municipal and Sissaala West District.

BACKGROUND:

The reading competition is sponsored by the USAID/Ghana Sages and is aimed at strengthening and fostering a love for reading and promoting literacy crucial for the academic and personal growth of our learners.

The reading festival is been organized in 17 Zones of Influence to serve as a powerful tool to achieve certain goals while offering numerous benefits to learners and the broader community.

By hosting the reading festival, it does not only promote literacy but also nurtures essential life skills that will benefit learners far beyond their academic careers.

The Reading Festival serves as a platform for accountability where schools demonstrate learning achievements.

The objectives of the reading festival are to create a reading culture, improve literacy skills, and boost confidence and self-esteem while fostering critical thinking and analytical skills and also encourage healthy competition.
