The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects believed to be behind a series of violent robbery attacks in the Wa West District.

A statement issued by the police indicates that the arrests were made in connection with two separate robbery incidents that occurred in recent weeks, involving masked assailants armed with firearms and machetes who ambushed victims from nearby bushes.

According to the release, three of the suspects—Iddrisu Sidibey (19), Abdulai Bandey (20), and Suleman Issah Zibrim (23)—attacked their first victim, Thomas Dormatey, a teacher, on February 28, 2026, between the Gadi and Chogsia communities.

The victim was shot in the leg and robbed of his mobile phone and cash amounting to GH¢2,600. The same suspects are said to have carried out a second attack on March 8, 2026, at the same location, robbing another victim, Issah Ibrahim, of his mobile phone and GH¢2,750 while he was returning from Jagluu community at about 7:30 p.m.

“In both incidents the suspects, usually masked and armed with firearms and machetes, emerged from nearby bushes and attacked their victims,” the police statement noted.

Police said the suspects were arrested at Chogsia following an intelligence-led, coordinated operation and were subsequently identified by the victims. A search conducted on them led to the retrieval of two cutlasses and four mobile phones, which have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The release further disclosed that on March 11, 2026, suspect Abdulai Bandey assisted police to arrest an alleged accomplice, Abdul Rahman Abdulai, at Gojiyiri near Wechiau. He is believed to have supplied the firearm used in the robberies.

The weapon was later retrieved from a bush where it had been concealed. Two other suspects, identified as Adil and Sambo, remain at large and are being pursued by the police.

The suspects have since been arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear on March 26, 2026.

The Upper West Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the region.
