The Upper West Regional Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Issah Kantagyere Bonsingmwini has lashed out at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his latest promise to liaise with telcos for the sale of mobile phones on instalment.
According to Issah, the delusion that clients can pay 1 and 2 Ghana Cedis monthly for hire-purchased mobile phones points out Bawumia’s weak recognition of the realities on the ground.
As part of his nationwide campaign tour Vice President Dr Bawumia promised to “make access to mobile affordable. We will collaborate with the Telcos to enable individuals to acquire mobile phones on hire purchase. Such people can pay 1 Cedi, 2 Cedis monthly”
This promise has been met with mixed reactions across the country.
In his reaction to Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Issah Kantagyere said “ No message at all, they have run away from discussing the Economy (which is bread and butter issue) to now promising selling smartphones on instalment to people. What a joke of the century!
How did we get here? How can we reduce the Presidency to a theatrical comic behaviour like Bawuliar is going around doing?”
Issah Kantagyere questioned the feasibility of the promise which he described as knee-jerk.
“ Assuming a smartphone costs GH¢ 2,000 and the customer pays an instalment of GHC 1 a month, it will take the customer 2,000 months to pay, which is approximately equivalent to 167 years. How can any right-thinking person say such a thing?”
He further proposed mental examination of Vice President Bawumia. “ We need to refer Bawuliar to a psychiatric practitioner”
Based on the assumptions of Issah Kantagyere, Bawumia’s rally in the Wa Central Constituency was a flop.
“It was a failed program! They bused hungry SHS students which they refused to feed properly and gave them Bawuliar’s T-shirts to wear just to fill the ground, but that did not work for them”
Dr Bawumia is currently touring the Upper West Region as part of his nationwide campaign tour to touch base with citizens in various constituencies.
