On Thursday, August 13, 2026, Lawyer Sylvester Isang formally declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Nandom Constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In a declaration of intent addressed to chiefs, constituents, NPP delegates, party executives, members of the media and Nandome in the diaspora, Mr. Isang said his decision was driven by his desire to contribute to the development of Nandom and provide what he described as the political will needed to advance the constituency’s interests.

Mr. Isang, who describes himself as a son of Nandom, said he was born and raised in the constituency and received his basic and secondary education there, attending St. Paul’s Primary School, St. Andrew’s JHS and Nandom Senior High School.

He later attended Tamale College of Education and the University of Ghana, and subsequently obtained a Master of Science degree in Leadership for Sustainable Development in the United Kingdom in 2009.

A significant part of Mr. Isang’s declaration focuses on his early life experiences and struggles with poverty.

He recounted working on maize and cotton farms in Lambussie, working at construction sites and farming in communities around Kintampo to raise money for his education.

He also recalled helping his mother with activities including fetching firewood, fetching clay for pottery and carrying firewood to market.

According to him, one of the defining moments of his childhood was when his late grandfather, Timatio, who had one leg, sold his entire stock of groundnuts to raise GH¢10.50 needed for his admission to Nandom Senior High School in 1994.

Mr. Isang said these experiences had given him a firsthand understanding of the socioeconomic challenges confronting many people in Nandom.

“I have taken the pain to recount some of my past experiences to vindicate the fact that I understand Nandom peculiar problems and the challenges confronting Nandome,” he stated.

He argued that his personal experiences, social networks and engagement with development organisations had equipped him to advocate for the constituency at different levels.

Mr. Isang said his association with the NPP dates back to 1994, when he was first issued a party membership card.

He said he had actively supported the party and its parliamentary candidates in the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 general elections, often using his personal resources.

He also cited his previous service as an Assemblyman in the Biregang Electoral Area, claiming that the NPP won parliamentary elections in the area in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024, with the exception of some polling stations.

He specifically mentioned the Kogper Temporary Booth, saying the NPP won both the presidential and parliamentary elections there in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Mr. Isang attributed the results partly to his engagement with voters and the campaign messages he delivered.

The parliamentary aspirant pledged that his campaign would be based on issues rather than personal attacks.

“I pledge to run my campaign on issue base devoid of insults and character assassination,” he said.

He added that, if given the opportunity to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, he would similarly conduct the general election campaign on an issues-based platform.

Mr. Isang also emphasised his cross-party and development-sector networks, saying they could help him make a stronger case for Nandom irrespective of political affiliations.

He said he would turn 50 in January 2027 and argued that his age, experience and track record made the present moment appropriate for him to offer himself for public service.

“So the time is now! I come on board with much experience, zeal, commitment and dedication and a track record which is there for all to see,” he stated.
