The Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Wa has called on young people to embrace justice as the bedrock of fairness, peace, and mutual respect.Speaking at the Tamale Provincial Youth Study Session in Wa, Very Rev. Fr. John Kuupiel stressed that “without justice, there can be no peace.”

He urged youth to uphold fairness in all interactions and referenced Pope Leo XIV’s address to the Vatican judiciary, which emphasized respecting every individual’s rights in relationships rooted in truth and community fairness.Fr. Kuupiel warned that proclaiming God’s Word without practicing justice robs it of transformative power.

Addressing youth executives, representatives, and chaplains from the dioceses of Wa, Damongo, Yendi, Tamale, and Navrongo-Bolgatanga, he said justice is inseparable from peace – not merely the absence of war or violence, but an active stand against physical, psychological, and structural harms.

Tamale Provincial Youth Chaplain Rev. Fr. Boris Charles Tengabo highlighted the event’s theme, “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana.” He praised youth as idea-generators and initiators who can foster peace at outstation, parish, diocesan, provincial, and national levels using their voices and platforms.”

I have great confidence in the youth; they have much to offer the Church and society,” Fr. Tengabo said. He called for robust support – including resources, encouragement, guidance, and positive attitudes – to empower them.

The session underscores the Catholic Church’s push for youth-led efforts amid Ghana’s social challenges.
