A former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Wa West, Alhaji Adamu Dasaana, has appealed to residents of the constituency to prioritize peace as the foundation of development. Currently serving as the Upper West Regional Coordinator for Free Senior High School.
The appeal comes amid rising tensions in Wa West, including a recent press conference by Wechau youth accusing MP Peter Lanchene Toobu and DCE Richard Wullo of favoring the eastern corridor in development projects, a claim denied by eastern youth in a counter-press conference.
The area has also experienced pockets of communal clashes resulting in deaths.
Dasaana made the call during a ceremony in Wechau, where he donated 60 bags of 50kg sugar to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency office for distribution across the party’s 17 zones.
“I make this modest donation through the party for equitable distribution to the zones, mindful that they vary in size. As executives, let equity guide you we will not limit it to party members but extend it to others, including our revered non-political leaders,” Dasaana said.
He described the gesture as symbolic, urging fair distribution to foster unity rather than division or discrimination. Dasaana also called on Muslims to pray for peace and tranquility in the area during Ramadan.
NDC Wa West Constituency Chairman Matthew Vaari, who received the donation, expressed profound gratitude and pledged equitable distribution through the party’s Zongo Caucus coordinator.
However, he lamented that some local appointees under past NDC governments have neglected the party. “I pray God elevates you beyond your current role, for the immense benefits our area will reap,” Vaari said.
The Upper West Free SHS coordinator and the party executives subsequently paid a courtesy call on the chief of Wechau Naa Imoru Nandon Gomah II, at his palace where he made some donation for the Ramadan. The Wechau Imam made prayers for peace and prosperity on the land and for Allah’s blessings for Alhaji Dasaana.
Alhaji Dasaana has long supported NDC activities in Wa West, including contributions to the constituency communications team, T-shirt printing, and party souvenirs ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
