The leadership of Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ) has called on its members and the wider Muslim community to refrain from public commentary and speculation regarding an incident that occurred during the Eid al-Adha prayers held at the precincts of the State House in Accra last week.

In a press release issued by the organization’s National Headquarters in Accra, ASWAJ described the occurrence as an “unfortunate incident” and appealed to adherents to avoid making further public statements that could inflame tensions or undermine efforts to resolve the matter.

According to the statement, the organization’s Committee on Arbitration and Disciplinary Affairs has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the misunderstanding. The committee is expected to engage with all individuals who were directly or indirectly involved in the incident as part of a process aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent, and amicable resolution.

ASWAJ emphasized that the investigation will be conducted in accordance with the organization’s constitution and internal disciplinary procedures.

“We therefore appeal to all concerned individuals and members to refrain from further public commentary or speculation, for the sake of Allah and the unity of the Ummah,” the statement noted.

According to widely circulated reports, there was some misunderstanding regarding which imam to lead the prayers at the forecourt of the State House.

The organization further urged members to prioritize peace, brotherhood, and mutual understanding during the period of inquiry, stressing the importance of maintaining unity within the Muslim community.

The statement was signed by Sheikh Hussein Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Arbitration and Disciplinary Committee of ASWAJ, who expressed hope that the situation would be resolved constructively.

“May Allah guide us through this moment of test and strengthen our bonds of brotherhood and understanding,” the statement concluded.

The Eid al-Adha prayers at the State House traditionally attract large numbers of Muslim worshippers and community leaders from across the country, making the call for restraint and unity particularly significant as discussions surrounding the incident continue.
