The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects and recorded one death after a months-long, intelligence-led operation that dismantled an armed robbery syndicate operating across Wa West District and Wa Municipality.
Police said the gang attacked victims with machetes and forced them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs, then transferred funds into accounts controlled by the robbers. In a statement signed by DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Regional Commander, investigators say the syndicate stole about GH¢22,070 in cash and siphoned an additional GH¢3,274 via MoMo transfers totaling GH¢25,344.
The six suspects identified by police are 35‑year‑old Amadu Moro, 40‑year‑old Adama Yussif, 52‑year‑old Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 35‑year‑old Iddrissu Adama, 20‑year‑old Korika Issaka, and 21‑year‑old Zakaria Brigi. Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries during the operation and died on arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital; his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Preliminary inquiries link Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman to multiple robberies, including incidents at:
Kpenateng Junction (August 1, 2026), Kpenateng Community (June 15, 2026), Kulkpara‑Dapoha (June 19, 2026) and Piisi Dapoha (March 27 and May 23, 2026).
Seven mobile phones seized from the suspects are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
Police say two suspected gang members remain at large: Haruna (30), alleged armourer, and 24‑year‑old Amadu Mahamudu, who is identified as the son of the deceased suspect. Authorities have intensified efforts to locate and arrest them.
The Regional Command urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious persons or activity. Officials also appealed for credible tips to help apprehend the remaining suspects and prevent further crimes.
