As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) pursues internal reorganization across the Upper West Region, well-known businessman and party financier Jonas Dorsaah, popularly called “Bozin” is positioning himself to contest for the NDC constituency chairmanship in Dafiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI).
Over the past week social media has been awash with posters and campaign fliers announcing Bozin’s intention to run, prompting speculation within party ranks. Dorsaah is widely respected locally for sustained community engagement and financial support for grassroots initiatives, earning him strong backing among both youth and elders.
When contacted by Yiri News, Dorsaah said he has begun consultations with stakeholders but stopped short of a formal announcement. “I am engaging members across the constituency; once consultations are complete I will make my decision public,” he said by phone.
However, sources close to him told Yiri News that Bozin is the preferred choice of a majority of the party base and is likely to accept calls to contest should the consultations conclude in his favor.
The DBI contest is shaping up to be competitive. Incumbent constituency chairman Boniface Tienaah is reportedly seeking election to a regional vice-chair position, creating an open race at constituency level. Former constituency organizer Philip Boye has declared his candidacy for chair, and other aspirants are expected to enter the contest.
Observers say the outcome of the constituency election could influence long-standing alignments in the constituency, notably the rival camps associated with Hon. Abu KK and Dr. Sandaare. How the vote will affect those internal dynamics remains unclear.
