The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sissala West, Hon. Abudu Fuseini Gbene, joined the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Monday, September 8, to commemorate this year’s “My First Day at School” initiative by visiting three basic schools and distributing school uniforms to newly enrolled pupils.
The DCE visited Dasima E/A Basic School, Dasima Basic School and Jeffisi Gowii KG, where he welcomed KG 1 and Basic 1 pupils beginning their academic journey.
Accompanied by the Head of Supervision and other education officials, Hon. Gbene interacted with pupils, teachers and parents, encouraging children to embrace education while urging parents to remain committed to their children’s schooling.
Speaking during the visits, the DCE reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding access to quality basic education.
“Government is committed to providing free basic education and ensuring every child of school-going age is in the classroom. These uniforms are to motivate our children to stay in school,” he stated.
The distribution of uniforms formed part of efforts to support enrolment and improve school attendance among first-time learners in the district.
Heads of the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude to the DCE, the District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service for the timely intervention, describing the gesture as a source of encouragement for both pupils and their families as the new academic year begins.
