Member of Parliament for Dafiama-Bussie-Issa, Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, a trained physician, launched a free surgical and eye care program in partnership with the APRIDEC Medical Outreach Group.
The initiative is tackling a surge of hernias, gynecological conditions, and other urgent cases, delivering relief to over 200 patients who might otherwise wait years for care.
Most procedures are unfolding at Issa Polyclinic, with select cases routed to the nearby Nadowli/Kaleo District Hospital. Diagnoses trace back to earlier health screenings Dr. Sandaare organized across constituency zones highlighting his long-standing commitment to a region plagued by limited medical access.
Dafiama-Bussie-Issa District Director of Health Services, Madam Genevieve Yiripare, called the effort a game-changer. “These surgeries are crucial,” she told reporters. “We once lost our only medical doctor to further studies, with no replacement for months, leaving a massive backlog. Dr. Sandaare’s selflessness is bridging that gap and saving lives.”
For patients like those speaking to Yiri News, the impact is profoundly personal. “These surgeries would have been impossible for us to afford,” one beneficiary shared. “Dr. Sandaare covered the bills, transport, and medicines—it’s a blessing we can’t repay.” Their gratitude underscores the stark realities of rural healthcare, where costs can force families into debt or despair.
Dr. Sandaare, who has championed health outreaches for years, doubled down with tangible support: donating drugs, reagents, and equipment to Issa Polyclinic. “Health is my top priority,” he declared. “My vision is to transform this facility into a fully equipped hub for specialist surgeries, ensuring no one in Dafiama-Bussie-Issa suffers needlessly.”
