The Nadowli/Kaleo District Ghana Education Service, Basic Schools Sports Festival received a significant boost this week after the newly formed Jawara Foundation donated sporting equipment, trophies and refreshments to support the week-long event.
The foundation furnished each circuit in the district with a full set of jerseys — 10 sets in total — and supplied ten high-quality footballs. It also presented three plaques, nine trophies, and an initial batch of twenty medals, with another thirty-four medals due to be delivered soon. Organisers and athletes were also given about 100 sachets of drinking water.

Francis Baaladong, speaking on behalf of Jawara Foundation founder David Banye Jawara during the handover, said the donation is part of the foundation’s youth-development mandate. He explained that young people from Kaleo had appealed to sons and daughters of the area for help to make the festival successful, and the Jawara Foundation responded promptly. Baaladong added that the group will concentrate its efforts primarily on health and youth development across the district.
Madam Vivian Nyekanga, District Director of Education, thanked the foundation for the timely contribution and urged athletes to perform to the best of their abilities while observing the rules. She also called on officials to ensure fairness in all matches and competitions, saying the foundation’s support would motivate competitors as they vie for medals and awards.
The Nadowli/Kaleo inter-circuit basic schools sports festival runs from June 14 to June 20. Athletes selected by the district Ghana Education Service sports unit will represent Nadowli/Kaleo at the inter-district basic schools sports festival in Nandom.
