Residents of Nandom Municipality and neighbouring districts no longer have to travel to Wa or other towns to access Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) services, following the establishment of the DVLA Nandom Satellite Office at Segru along the Nandom–Hamile Road.
Located just before the Ghana Immigration Service checkpoint, the office is providing a full range of DVLA services comparable to those offered at fully operational DVLA offices across the country.
Speaking in an interview with Mr. Vitus Gbogryangn who facilitated in securing an office space with the needed facilities for the office to smoothly begin operations, he explained that although the facility is a satellite office under the Upper West Regional DVLA Office, it offers comprehensive services to the public.
“We are here to provide full service just like any other fully fledged office,” the officer said.
He noted that the office handles new driver’s licence applications, licence renewals, replacement of lost or damaged licences, change of ownership of vehicles, registration of motorcycles, cars and other vehicles, as well as the processing of International Driving Permits.
“Whatever any DVLA office does anywhere within the country can be done here in Nandom,” he added.
On the issuance of driver’s licence cards, Mr. Gbogryangn clarified that while biometric data and application processing are done in Nandom, the actual printing of licence cards is undertaken at the DVLA Head Office.
“We gather the data and transmit it to the Head Office, where the cards are printed and issued,” he explained.
The opening of the office is expected to significantly reduce the cost, time and inconvenience associated with travelling long distances to access DVLA services. It is also expected to improve access to vehicle registration and driver licensing services for residents of Nandom Municipality, Lawra, Lambussie and surrounding communities.
The establishment of the office forms part of efforts by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority to decentralise its services and improve public access to essential transport-related services across Ghana.
