The Upper West Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Program (NAP) Joseph Sungbuobu Banye, has embarked on a monitoring tour of the Wa Municipality to assess the progress of ongoing apprenticeship training activities.
The visit forms part of efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the government’s flagship skills development initiative aimed at reducing unemployment among the youth.
During the tour, the Coordinator interacted with trainees, instructors, and training center operators to evaluate the quality of training, availability of logistics, and overall participation levels. The exercise also sought to identify challenges affecting the smooth delivery of the program and explore ways to address them.

Mr. Banye enphasised that the National Apprenticeship Program is a key intervention aligned with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to tackle unemployment by equipping Ghanaian youth with practical and employable skills.
He noted that the program covers a wide range of trade areas including software development, carpentry, building and construction, fish farming, and garment making, among others.
Some beneficiaries who spoke during the visit expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing the program as timely and impactful. They indicated that the training is helping them acquire skills that will enable them to secure jobs or start their own businesses.

The Coordinator assured that regular monitoring exercises will continue to ensure high standards, accountability, and the overall success of the program across the region.
The National Apprenticeship Program is expected to play a critical role in addressing youth unemployment and boosting local economic development in the Upper West Region and beyond.
