Jawara Foundation has donated awards and sports equipment to the Upper West Ghana Education Service (GES) sports festival for basic schools, held at Nandom Senior High School. The festival brought together teams from all eleven districts of the Upper West Region.
On Thursday, July 3, Jawara Foundation energized the programme by contributing 100 certificates, 100 medals, 20 trophies and 11 footballs. The foundation also presented a pair of football jerseys to the Nadowli/Kaleo district team and donated 20 branded cups and shirts for the Nadowli/Kaleo district sports officials.
Speaking for the foundation during the donation in Nandom, Francis Baaladong said Jawara Foundation stepped in after learning of the importance of the festival. “It would not be right for participants to go through such competitions and leave with nothing to show,” he said.
He stressed that sports play a pivotal role in nation‑building and reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting youth development and women’s empowerment through sponsorship of events and activities.
Julius Ansongmwini, Upper West Regional Physical Education Coordinator, thanked Jawara Foundation for the timely donation, describing the contribution as the highlight of the festival that put smiles on the faces of participants and officials alike.
Nandom Municipal Director of Education, Simon Peter Ansogletuo, also expressed his gratitude, calling the foundation’s support a novelty in his career as a teacher. He urged Jawara Foundation to continue and expand its assistance to school sports across the region.
Sources close to founder David Banye Jawara told Yiri News that the foundation will be officially launched next month, a move expected to broaden its capacity for community initiatives and youth programmes.
