The Upper West Regional Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a fiery rebuttal to viral social media allegations claiming that regional chairman Abdul Nasir Saani, popularly known as Bunas, secured a controversial GH¢218 million sole-sourced road contract through his company. In a strongly worded press statement dated March 25, 2025—released for immediate publication, signed by Regional Communications Director Issah Kantagyeri, categorically denied the claims propagated by a Facebook user identifying as Joseph Ohene-Dei and echoed by several New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.
The accusations, circulating widely on platforms like Facebook, alleged that Bunas Company Limited had been dubiously awarded the contract for upgrading the Bole-Mandari-Chache road and related projects, with the same work oddly assigned to two other contractors. “This claim is false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the general public and tarnish the reputation of our hardworking Regional Chairman,” the statement declared without ambiguity.
For clarity, the NDC emphasized that the contract was legitimately awarded to MARPOMA ENT. LTD, with construction already underway. “Any suggestion that the contract has been awarded to multiple contractors under questionable circumstances is entirely unfounded and should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” it added.
The bureau condemned the spread of such “baseless and unsubstantiated allegations” as politically motivated misinformation aimed at undermining Bunas’s development efforts in the Upper West Region and across Ghana.
It issued a stern warning to Ohene-Dei and others: cease sharing the defamatory content immediately, or face legal action to safeguard the chairman’s reputation. “The public is urged to disregard the said post and treat it as false propaganda,” the statement concluded.
This episode highlights the intensifying digital skirmishes between Ghana’s major political parties ahead of future elections, where unverified social media posts often fuel partisan narratives. As of now, neither Joseph Ohene-Dei nor NPP representatives have publicly responded to the NDC’s denial.
The Bole-Mandari-Chache road project forms part of broader infrastructure initiatives in the underserved Savannah Region, where connectivity remains a key electoral issue.
