Biekpe Sylvester, a two-term constituency communications officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nadowli/Kaleo, has announced he will not seek re-election, honoring a pledge made during the 2019 constituency elections.
In a statement dated March 15, 2026, and widely shared online, Sylvester wrote: “After careful reflection, I wish to kindly inform you that I will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming constituency executives’ elections.” He expressed optimism about “many capable hands” ready to excel in the role.
Popularly known as “BT Sly,” Sylvester thanked constituency executives, branch leaders, and NDC members for their support. He specifically praised Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, whom he called his “political mentor and godfather” as well as the Nadowli/Kaleo MP, Anthony Sumah for their guidance in strengthening party communications.
“I therefore wish to thank… the veteran and venerable Rt Hon Alban Bagbin, in whom I continue to grow in all spheres of life,” the statement read.
Sylvester emphasized his commitment remains with the party, adding that he is “seeking the face of God to direct his next path.”
The announcement has sparked buzz on social media, where flyers have circulated promoting Sylvester for NDC Upper West regional communications officer. It remains unclear if he authorized them or if they stem from enthusiastic supporters.
Incumbent regional communications officer Issah Kantagyeri, who heads corporate affairs at the Ghana Maritime Authority, has not commented publicly and may also forgo re-election. Separately, Wa East constituency communications officer Aziz Donla has signaled interest in the regional role. Sources close to the party tell Yiri News that additional aspirants are consulting stakeholders ahead of an expected announcement.
NDC constituency elections are slated for later this year, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
