Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaari, Member of Parliament for the Dafiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) constituency, has cut the sod for a new emergency ward at the Dafiama Health Center.
The facility, one of the oldest in the region, has long served communities stretching beyond the district. Hence the need to modernize, expand and upgrade it.
Speaking at the ceremony, the physician-turned-legislator highlighted urgent calls from locals for upgrades. “Dafiama, Fian, Kojokperi, and others are all advocating for their health centers to be upgraded. That’s justifiable, and we will work toward that,” Dr. Sandaari said.
He committed personally to the emergency ward project, noting its synergy with an ongoing theater construction. “When it comes on stream, coupled with the completion of the theater, it will make a significant impact in our drive to upgrade this into a polyclinic,” he added.
In an exclusive interview with Yiri News, Dr. Sandaari revealed the project—costing between ¢700,000 and ¢1,000,000—will wrap up within six months. Funding is already secured, he assured, quashing concerns over delays.
He also announced hiring professionals to design a comprehensive layout for the health center, preventing haphazard development. “Health facilities are special areas that must be well planned. The plan and layout are done, and I’ll make it available to all authorities,” he emphasized.
District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. James Wor echoed that his priority is on healthcare since taking office. “You can see work ongoing at the theater we’re constructing. The contractor has shown commitment, and we’ll ensure all payments are made for timely completion,” he said.
Traditional leaders voiced strong support as Naa Nagua Angmwierenjeng, speaking for Paramount Chief Naa Dikomwine Domalae of Dafiama, pledged commitment to public health. While thanking the MP, he urged further action: “Do more to get this health center upgraded into a polyclinic.”
DBI District Director of Health Services, Madam Genevieve Yiripare, praised the leaders and called for broader stakeholder involvement. “Thank you to the MP and DCE for making health a priority. We urge all in society to support in diverse ways to improve healthcare here.”
The initiative signals growing momentum for rural health infrastructure in the Dafiama-Bussie-Issa district, where aging facilities strain under rising demands.
