The Wa High Court has sentenced Elyasu Kunateh to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour after finding him guilty of sodomizing a 7-year-old boy in Kabanye, a suburb of Wa.
The conviction was secured by the Office of the Attorney General, with the prosecution led by Lawyer Saeed Abdul Shakur, Principal State Attorney for the Upper West Region.
According to court proceedings, the accused committed the act against the minor in Kabanye. Following investigations and trial, the court found him guilty and handed down a 10-year sentence in hard labour.
Lawyer Saeed Abdul Shakur confirmed the successful prosecution, describing it as part of ongoing efforts by the Attorney General’s Department to ensure justice for victims of sexual offences, especially children.
He reiterated the commitment of the Office of the Principal State Attorney in the Upper West Region to vigorously prosecute cases of sexual violence and to protect vulnerable persons in the region.
The 10-year sentence is expected to serve as a deterrent to persons who engage in acts of sexual abuse against children.
