The Volta River Authority (VRA) on Friday, July 3, donated 100 solar-powered lights to chiefs and landlords of the Kaleo Traditional Area in a bid to boost community lighting and deepen ties with the host community.
The brief ceremony took place at the palace of Paramount Chief Naa Yelmiihi Biengu II and brought together staff from VRA’s Akosombo and Lawra offices and personnel from the Kaleo solar farms.
Speaking before the presentation, Madam Rhoda Arthur, VRA’s Corporate Communications and Community Relations Officer, said the donation followed a request from the Kaleo Naa. “Kaleo means a lot to VRA for offering land to serve Mother Ghana,” she said, pledging continued partnership to support the growth and development of the community.
Naa Yelmiihi Biengu II described the gesture as commendable and said the lights will help illuminate the community. He thanked the VRA for the intervention and called for closer collaboration to accelerate development in the area.
Kaleo is one of two communities in the Upper West Region that host VRA-owned solar farms supplying electricity to the national grid.
