Residents of Da/Dambaa in the Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency of the Upper West region celebrated on Thursday as their long-stalled electrification project reached completion, officially connecting the community to the national grid.
Member of Parliament Hon. Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah commissioned the project, which had languished for years before he allocated over GH¢124,000 to finish its final phase.
The initiative, supported by collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), marks a key win for rural development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sumah reaffirmed his pledge to uplift constituents’ lives. “My continuous efforts to promote development are already yielding positive results, particularly in expanding electricity access across the constituency,” he said.
He announced immediate plans to install 20 streetlights in Da/Dambaa to boost nighttime visibility and security.
Hon. Sumah also revealed that about 60 communities in the district remain without power but vowed to slash that number significantly by year’s end.

He thanked initial project contributors, noting their groundwork had finally borne fruit.
Locals hailed the milestone as transformative. “This will improve economic activities and social life,” one resident said, echoing widespread gratitude for enhanced opportunities in business, education, and safety.
The commissioning advances broader rural electrification goals in Nadowli/Kaleo, addressing persistent infrastructure gaps in northern Ghana.
