A renewed sense of hope has emerged at Takpo Senior High School (SHS) following a high level engagement between the school’s Board and the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, over critical infrastructure challenges facing the institution.
The meeting, led by Board Chairman Major Albert Don-Chebe, brought to the fore the pressing difficulties that have plagued the school for over 15 years. Operating from outdated basic school facilities, Takpo SHS continues to struggle with inadequate infrastructure that falls short of supporting its growing student population.
In a passionate appeal, Chairman Don Chebe congratulated the Regional Minister on his appointment while commending government’s commitment to education. However, he did not mince words in highlighting the school’s urgent needs particularly access to reliable electricity and potable water, which he described as fundamental to both academic success and student welfare.
“These are not luxuries but necessities,” he emphasized, noting that several attempts have been made in the past to attract support for the school’s development.
Responding to the concerns, Hon. Puozuing acknowledged the challenges and offered a ray of optimism. He disclosed that contracts have already been awarded for the construction of new boys’ and girls’ dormitories an intervention expected to significantly ease the school’s infrastructure deficit.
On the issue of electricity, the Minister assured the Board of his commitment to fast track the process but stressed the need for due procedure. He urged the school’s management to submit a formal request accompanied by a comprehensive assessment report and cost estimates to facilitate swift action.
The Minister reaffirmed his dedication to improving educational infrastructure across the region, underscoring the importance of creating a conducive learning environment for students.
The engagement marks a pivotal turning point for Takpo SHS, as collaboration between the school authorities and regional leadership signals a strong commitment to change.
